Information Technology Technical Associate (Security Support Specialist) - ACCC (Job ID #86622)

Job Summary:

The Academic Computing and Communications Center (ACCC) at UIC is seeking an IT Technical Associate (Security Support Specialist).

The Academic Computing and Communications Center is an agile organization, with a collaborative and team centered environment that provides IT leadership, academic technology infrastructure and services at University of Illinois at Chicago. We excel at supporting 40,000 staff, faculty and students across a diverse and comprehensive university in the heart of Chicago. Our services include campus wide networking, teaching and learning, identity and access management, communications, research computing, IT security, application development, web services, compliance and more.

This position will support the Chief Information Security and Privacy Officer in handling matters related to HIPAA, State regulations, privacy regulations, healthcare compliance, and other regulatory matters. Responsibilities include log monitoring and the creation of alerts, researching new and existing compliance requirements, and working with university units on matters related to security and privacy.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

10% Provide advice and assistance to departments regarding privacy and security matters.

20% Research privacy policy and compliance related issues and participate in team discussions to formulate new or enhance existing processes, policies, and standards.

5% Coordinate, document and run related meetings.

10% Coordinate and maintain web content and other documentation.

30% Assist with monitoring of HIPAA related processes and systems.

5% Work with operational staff across campus to review existing practices and implement campus policy and standards.

10% Assist with onsite privacy and security audits by spot checking individual facilities.

10% Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:

1. Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
2. Minimum of one (1) year Professional Information Systems Security which includes; demonstrated experience in assessing, monitoring, maintaining, and evaluating information security policies and systems, including hardware, firmware and software.
3. Demonstrated knowledge knowledge of HIPAA, HITECH, and related domestic privacy laws required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with healthcare regulatory matters preferred.
