Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems sector is seeking an Electro-Optical Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located at our Manned Aircraft Design COE in Melbourne, FL.

Essential Functions:
  • Researches, designs, develops, and tests a variety of electronic equipment and systems, including radar and radiation detection equipment; radio, television and other communications equipment and systems; circuitry components; analog and digital computers; and control and test equipment.
  • Specific task areas and responsibilities include developing Electro-Optics/Infrared/Laser sensor requirements, developing sensor designs, modeling and predicting sensor performance, and testing sensor performance both in the laboratory as well as on the aircraft during flight testing.
  • Selected candidate will be mentored and guided in your daily tasks by experienced optical engineers and will be part of an integrated product team working closely with other engineering disciplines to produce the sensor systems and integrate them into the air platforms.
  • Work within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, interfacing with IPT leadership, suppliers, customers, and other technical disciplines to engineer design solutions to challenging problems through the development of Product Definition Packages.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of STEM related engineering experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of experience.
  • A current active in-scope DoD Secret security clearance or higher is required to start with the ability to obtain Special Program Access.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering with optical engineering/science/physics coursework is preferred.
  • Internship experience with a Department of Defense aerospace company in preferred.
  • Academic courses in optics, radiometry, detectors, or lasers with hands-on experience in an optics laboratory is preferred.
  • A current active in-scope DoD Top Secret clearance preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.
  • Experience using optical design/modeling/image processing software products such as Zemax, FRED, ASAP and ENVI.
