Transformation Pipeline Engineer (Contract)

Transformation Engineer | 6 Month Contract (Inside IR35) Hybrid Working | SHEFFIELD

We are seeking a mid level Transformation Engineer with specific and strong database design experience (4-5 years)

The Role:

  • The crux of the job is to design, build, test and deploy data APIs for downstream consumers to access the data on Google BigQuery Warehouse.
  • The Data Engineer will also optimise data and API granularity, flexibility and autonomy with the use of materialised views, query parameters, schema design partitions, indexes, down-sampling, etc.
  • To manage trade-offs between data volumes, scope, timing and performance.
  • Design, build, test and deploy Google Cloud data models and transformations in BigQuery, Datafusion environment (eg SQL, stored procedures, indexes, clusters, partitions, triggers, etc.)
  • Optimize data views for specific visualization use cases making use of schema design partitions, indexes, down-sampling, archiving, etc. to manage trade-offs such as performance and flexibility
  • Protect the solution with appropriate Authorization and Authentication models, data encryption and other security components
  • Review and refine, interpret and implement business and technical requirements
  • Ensure you are part of the on-going productivity and priorities by refining User Stories, Epics and Backlogs in Jira
  • Manage code artefacts and CI/CD using tools like Git, Jenkins, Google Secrets Manager, etc.
  • Estimate, commit and deliver requirements to scope, quality, and time expectation

Job requirements

  • Expert in database design - both relational and dimensional data models (and preferably Data Vault) in Google BigQuery or similar Cloud technology
  • 1+ years of proven recent experience developing, refactoring, optimization of SQL/T-SQL
  • Expertise in Administration and Development of On-prem or Cloud Databases, Warehouses and Lakes
  • Data preparation, wrangling and refactoring skills, for example as part of a Data Science pipelines
  • Expert in the preparation, usage, visualization and editing of data in web, dashboard or other user interfaces (3-tier architecture, CRUD procedures, etc.)
  • Excellent understanding of GCP Architecting and solution design
