We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Systems Engineer to help define, design, integrate, test, and evaluate current and future advanced strike weapons systems. As a trusted agent for the Government, we provide full life-cycle systems engineering, modeling and simulation, and analysis of the Nation's preeminent tactical weapons systems.
As a member of our team, you will represent APL to provide direct systems engineering support to our Government sponsors and coordinate engineering activities with APL team members to serve the technical needs of the programs.
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will
- Perform systems engineering activities such as early concept definition, leading trade studies, developing system level requirements and architectures, system verification planning, optimizing overall system performance, and risk analyses.
- Coordinate with Government sponsors to identify how APL technical talent and expertise can be utilized to help solve their most difficult technical and operational challenges.
- Serve as direct interface between the Government sponsor and APL technical & project management team.
- Work with industry, academic, and Government laboratory staff to identify emerging technologies to advance weapon system capabilities for the warfighter.
- Document analysis/engineering results, prepare reports, and establish material requirements for sponsors. This would include organizing the study team, ensuring quality of technical products, and developing/delivering associated technical briefs.
Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you
- Have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or another related technical field.
- Have at least five years of relevant experience in systems engineering principles and practices enabling significant contributions and leadership related to tactical weapons systems development.
- Have strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills and ability to interact with Government sponsor representatives.
- Have the ability and willingness to travel periodically to work with prime contractors and Government labs and to provide technical advice during new system development/system modifications.
- Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

- Have a Master's degree or higher in Systems Engineering, Operations Research/Applied Mathematics, Physics, or another related technical field.
- Have significant professional experience specific to NAVAIR weapon systems development and acquisition.
- Have prior military experience with tactical weapons planning and deployment.
- Have knowledge and experience with Planning, Programming and Budgeting, Acquisition Process/Lifecycle, Research and Development, and Test and Evaluation of DoD Systems.
- Have demonstrated ability to interface effectively with Government sponsors.
- Hold an active TS/SCI clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. Minimum Rate$90,000 Annually
